The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV comes with the "Sage" a new class ("Job " ) in the extension endwalker. But the class icon is now changed before the release, because the class symbol triggers a phobia: trypophobie. This is a fear of feeling some when you see a pattern of holes or bubbles.
This changes Final Fantasy XIV: You change the "Class Icon" of the Sage - in Final Fantasy XIV every job has a very specific image that stands for him, it's the class symbols. For example, the bard has a stylized lute, the forest runner has a bow, for the picenier is a lance.
The new class "Sage" in Final Fantasy XIV has four "Sage Tools" as a class symbol: four rod-shaped patterns with a hole at the top.
This class symbol is changed now: Although there are still four SAGE tools, but there are no hole anymore.
Feedback from all over the world: "Fear and malaise"
That says the boss : In the blog of Final Fantasy XIV, the boss of MMORPG, Naoki Yoshida, said, and explained the change:
When we published the new details of the Sage and Reaper, we also showed the icons and did not think it would be a very large revelation. But we quickly received feedback from players from all over the world that told us the Icon of Sage dissolve with them or worry that they feel uncomfortable.
Yoshida then explains: This "aversion" is known as trypophobia, people would have a disgust or a fear of "clusters of small holes or humper". The phobia vary in their severity. Also exactly the fear trigger, different from person to person.
Yoshida thanks for the feedback, the team changes the logo. The holes in the original symbol were intended as detail, but then formed a pattern. That's changing that now.
How does this fear come from? This is not yet clarified. Science believes it could be a disgust or anxiety reaction, similar to the reaction to the sight of poisonites such as snakes or spiders.
Some researchers suspect that it is an instinct that warns people from "dangerous organisms": Some researchers think, trypophobia is a warning of skin and infectious diseases or parasites.
